The meeting of Directors of Rural Development – orum of experience exchange, Belgium
The successive meeting of directors responsible for the development of rural areas of European Union was held on 22 -23 November, 2010. The meetings are organized periodically by a member country performing the presidency in the Council of European Union. The meeting in Genk was organized by Belgium, which presides European Union in the 2nd part of 2010.
The aim of the meeting was the information exchange about the state of programmes’ implementation of rural areas development in particular community countries. The aim was also the discussion on the most important topics relating to politics of rural areas development.
During the meeting the priorities of EU described in the strategy Europe 2020 and the role of politics of rural areas development were discussed within the action groups.
The examples of particular member states’ innovative projects financed from the means of European Development Fund were also presented.
During the discussion the directors responsible for the development of rural areas emphasized the role and the significance of the National Network for Rural Areas, which activities underline and expose the value created by the support of rural areas from the community means. In the conference the representatives of DG AGRI participated, too.
On the 2nd day of meeting study visits were held. The participants visited Reegional Landschap Kempen en Maasland – the regional organization dealing with environmental protection. The organization is a beneficiary of projects financed within the framework of IV PROW and structural funds INTERREG PROJECT, SOLABIO, which aim is the support of biodiversity of Flanders’ and Netherlands’ rural areas.

The participants were shown the processing plant , which obtained the financial support from the activity of 121 Modernisation of homesteads and the activity of 311 differentiation towards non-agricultural business. Next to the process plant is a shop, in which you can buy products made of processed fruit. There is also an automatic machine for direct product (apples, pears) sale coming from nearby homesteads.
